Howdy all! I can’t believe its been 5 years since I’ve posted anything, but I knew one day I’d have something to truly blog about. Today, I believe that day has finally come. I’ve embarked on a journey worth journaling.
I’ve felt for years the calling towards entrepreneurship, but it was just too comfortable pulling in a paycheck twice a month. And, despite begging for people to give me their jobs, no one was willing (imagine that). I had hit a ceiling
Then, in mid-2017 I was downsized. The consultancy company I was working for was struggling to find accounts, and consequently I was spending quite a bit of time on the proverbial bench. Well, that can only last so long; and my blessing came..
In a desperate move, I reached out to a childhood friend who had accomplished all that I desired for myself. He, having kids of his own, had a great idea for a project to teach them the IT knowledge we both shared and loved. But how were we going to do that? If you have kids yourself, you’ll already know the answer to what I’m about to ask…
What is the world’s most engaging platform?
I have a 15 and 11 year old myself. They have tons of friends. My friends all have kids, who all have friends. I know hundreds of kids and EVERY-SINGLE-ONE-OF-THEM shares one thing in common… their love for VIDEO GAMES.
Long gone are the days of riding your bike around the neighborhood to see where your friends are. Now, kids gather online; and emotionally, they’re sitting right next to each other. It sounds unnatural to my generation, but today it’s the norm. Kids still want to socialize and compete against each other. They watch endless hours of Twitch and YouTube learning how to improve their strategies and skills. They’ve adapted their lifestyles to match the servers that distribute so easily their ability to congregate.
Why not leverage video games to teach our next generation?
A simple question, but that was it! I spent a year teaching myself how to write a video game and researching the market (Spoiler… its HUGE!). I felt it was something I could do, was excited about pouring myself into, and was exactly the entrepreneurial path God had been leading me to for so many years. In August of 2018 Istet Games was founded.
Join me on this journey as I boldly expand my horizons and stretch myself from a fully IT nerd into a storyteller growing a company. I look forward to sharing my experiences and struggles with you. I hope you’ll be so kind as to share yours with me as well.
